Entering back into a face-to-face world, our team was ready to start having in person studies again. Although we have an existing lab space that opened last year, it was in need of some TLC.
Dr. Lapan applied for and acquired a grant from the Wingate University Board of Visitors to improve the functionality of the space. The Wingate Board of Visitors gives roughly $40,000 in funds each year to projects proposed by students, faculty, or staff members with the goal of improving our student experience at Wingate University.
This year, the Psychology Department and the P.U.P.P.Y. Lab were granted $4,000 to purchase furniture and supplies to make the lab space more functional for research and more welcoming for parents and children. At the beginning of the summer, our lab space looked like an ordinary classroom, but now we have designed a space with research and children in mind.
It is now a cozy, kid-friendly environment great for conducting fun studies, which all take the form of games. Some highlights include a kid’s corner with an interactive rug and bean bag chairs, kid sized furniture, toys and games, and an abundance of new prizes for those that participate in our studies.
We were also able to purchase new 2-in-1 laptop tablets that will allow us to conduct computerized studies in the lab as well as in the field. We are so thankful and so excited to have had the chance to make our lab space better so that we can share it with our participants!
